Malusi Ndlovu, better known to his fans as BEAST, is a Durban born professional recording artist. With one conversation with him, you can sense the intense passion he has for his music and for hip hop.
The incredibly talented BEAST started writing songs in his early teenage years but kept them within or, in rare cases, share with his inner circle of friends. As he grew older, he began rapping with no microphone at parties and dingy street corners.
To BEAST’s surprise, the response was extraordinary. This immediately triggered demand for more music from his tiny fan base.
The then inexperienced rapper was introduced to a small record company, which then recorded and released his debut mixtape titled ‘GLOBAL WARMING’ during 2012.
The debut project went on to scoop four awards at The Original Material Awards which are held annually in the city of Durban. BEAST was voted and awarded ‘Newcomer Of The Year’, ‘Single Of The Year’, ‘Video Of The Year’ and ‘Mixtape Of The Year’, respectively. This early achievement confirmed that BEAST was destined for dizzying heights. His single titled ‘Leopard Skin’ stamped his presence in the scene by getting more than 4000 downloads in its first hour of release, quickly becoming a street anthem in KZN.
This was not only because it was a great song, but also because of the creative storyline that includes several key players in the hip hop scene.
The single was voted 2012 Hip Hop Song of The Year on Gagasi FM and became the first song to be played twice on its debut on 5fm due to public demand. By this, it was an ode to all its predecessors.
