MSI Cjay is a Cape Town-based rapper, producer, and Neo-Soul artist shaping a sound that sits between West Coast grit and elegant, soulful restraint. Emerging from South Africa’s Mother City, he’s built a catalog that deliberately sidesteps chart-chasing in favor of legacy work music made for the soul rather than the algorithm.
His 2025 run solidified that lane. April brought _Life Is Getting High_, his debut compilation EP through 440 Records and UnitedMasters. Split into a rap Side A and R&B Side B, it showcased “sleek” production and earned critical nods for his vocals, debuting at #11 on the Reverbnation Cape Town Charts. October’s _Rendezvous_ playlist followed, framed as him “getting to places and making Rendezvous for people close to him.” By December, _G SMART Vol. 2 dropped a West Coast hip hop-influenced sequel to his 2024 debut EP, largely self-produced alongside KeyZSlap, Markmywords, Rose, OB, and Noizy.
Now, Cjay is entering his most personal era with “Margaret,” an upcoming playlist named for his mother. He’s calling it a “masterpiece,” blending Neo-Soul sophistication with the bars fans know him for “bubbly, elegant, and timeless,” like premium champagne. Hype Magazine notes the shift: weaving family into title and tone, MSI Cjay is signaling something legendary from Cape Town hip hop.
